Routine auto maintenance is an important investment in your vehicle. By attending to the basics, you can enhance the performance and extend the lifespan of your car. You can also minimize the risk of more serious and costly repairs down the road.

As the seasons change, it’s a good time to review your car care needs and make sure everything is up to date. As you think about fall car service, here’s a checklist you can use. With any additional questions or service needs, reach out to the Matthews Motors Wilmington service center, where we’re always happy to help.

Our Fall Car Service Checklist

Check your oil.

Use the dipstick to verify that there’s still sufficient oil in the tank, and that the oil is still fairly clean. (Clean oil will be amber- or honey-colored.) If you’re running low or your oil is dirty, make a service center appointment.

Check your tire pressure.

As the seasons change, the pressure changes, too, and that can sometimes cause your tires to become underinflated. Use a tire gauge to check your current psi level, and make sure it aligns with the recommended tire pressure noted in your owner’s manual.

Verify your lights and signals all work.

Get your spouse, partner, or a close friend to help with this. Once it gets a little dusky outside, get into your car and turn on all your lights and signals one at a time. Have the other person standing outside the vehicle to verify that they’re all working the way they’re supposed to.

Replace windshield wipers and top off your wiper fluid.

Once winter weather starts, it will be especially important to have a clear field of vision, and that means windshield wipers that do their job.

Make a service center appointment if you notice anything unusual.

If you have any serious concerns, whether it be related to transmission or brakes, be sure you make a service center appointment right away.
